COMI solutions are a point of reference for thermoforming machines used in the production of refrigerators and in other industrial sectors. For COMI, innovation is a focal point, great attention is in fact paid to technologies for Industry 4.0COMI is an important Italian company that operates in the refrigerator industry sector, designing and building highly specialized thermoforming machines customized according to the needs of its customers.Founded in 1973, it soon consolidated itself as a leading player in the refrigeration sector at an international level thanks to numerous corporate acquisitions and partnerships that took place over the years.Currently the Group in Italy is present in four production sites: three in Lombardy and one in Veneto and technical-commercial branches in Dubai (UAE), China, Germany and the United States to offer better assistance and development of the local market.Strengthened by this international expansion, COMI is currently one of the world leaders in the white goods sector for the production of in-line thermoforming machines with important references such as Electrolux, Bosch, Haier, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, Indesit, Hisense etc.For Comi, innovation is truly a focal point: in fact, every year 10% of turnover is invested in the research and implementation of new technologies and patents, with particular attention to industry 4.0.And it is precisely in this area, with the aim of implementing a digital transformation strategy for machines, that the collaboration with Siemens finds greater strength.A collaboration born several years ago, with the use of automation and motion control technologies and which has led to an important renewal in the HMI field. The COMI plant in Ciserano, in the province of BergamoThe choice of COMI was WinCC Unified and the reasons that pushed towards this evolution were multiple: the fact that it was a technologically modern software, user friendly but with advanced customization capabilities and above all open, in order to allow data exchange with external systems (eg cloud, IT ...).Thanks to WinCC Unified Comi has been able to create smarter, more innovative and easier-to-use machines for the operator. For the design and implementation of the final project, the collaboration with 40Factory, a Piacenza technology startup that operates in the sectors of Industry 4.0 and the digitalization of machines, plants and industrial devices, was fundamental.Features such as automatic parameterization based on product characteristics and automatic diagnosis were particularly important, for easy identification of the causes of failure. Thanks to WinCC Unified, the operator's activity has been improved: in fact, it has gone from a complex manual process that required the training of qualified personnel, to a completely automatic configuration of the preheating plan, thanks to the development of graphic objects such as hoc (Custom Web Control) perfectly integrated into the pages. It was also possible to automatically adapt the user interface functions according to the different role of the operators (admin, maintenance technician and operator) with the possibility of receiving targeted notifications in case of malfunction.Furthermore, the user interface, being web native and equipped with scalable vector graphics, allows complete control of the machine in a simple and immediate way without loss of quality, both locally and remotely and with different devices (PC, smartphone or tablet).SIMATIC WinCC Unified has significantly improved user friendliness for machine operatorsThanks to the possibility of creating customized libraries in the TIA Portal (both for the PLC and for the HMI) it was possible to create a company standard and thus speed up the implementation of new automation projects. All these features have led to the full satisfaction of COMI whose goal was to offer its customers a complete solution, equipped with the most advanced technologies and capable of achieving high performance. With the new solution it is estimated that productivity has been increased by approximately 10% against a significant reduction in cycle times, waste and times for training and identifying faults (-10%).However, innovation for COMI does not stop at HMI: the software for the creation of digital twin technology is already being implemented, a digital twin capable of faithfully reproducing the machine, simulating its behavior and thus providing the possibility of intervening with tests. and modifications before the production of the real machine. Also in this case Siemens could be the ideal technological partner for COMI in this challenging path towards innovation and the new Industry 4.0.A long-lasting partnership that
