Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro are the most anticipated products this year. We had the opportunity to spend some time on electric scooters and even talked with the team of Ola Electric to better understand the product.
ZW: What changes have been made from Etergo to S1? Why?
OLA: Ola S1 is designed and manufactured completely from the ground up, including key core components and technologies, such as high-performance powertrain and motors, higher-capacity battery packs, VCU, HMI and body panels to design an ideal product India Road, Indian audience and usage.
1) Ola's Hyperdrive motor: internally designed and perfected, this 8.5kW motor is the most powerful scooter motor ever, with high thermal efficiency, unparalleled peak power and torque.
2) Battery: Set industry benchmark, 3.97 kWh battery pack, battery life of 181 kilometers. Our proprietary battery management system (BMS) actively monitors batteries for optimal durability, performance, range and safety. It also has waterproof and flame retardant functions.
3) The vehicle control unit (VCU) designed and manufactured by Ola is a smart VCU with an eight-core processor, 3GB of memory and high-speed connection via 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
4) The 7-inch touch screen HMI display is equipped with:
Multi-microphone array and voice recognition function
Custom emotions: Supported by a proprietary operating system developed by Ola and MoveOS, Ola S1 will have four emotions: Bolt, Care, Vintage and Wonder. Each emotion will change the look and feel of the display, and even the sound of the scooter.
Personal data: Customers can save four personal data in Ola S1 and select the personal data of the person who rides a motorcycle. Cool features such as parental lock will also be provided.
ZW: Why is S1 35-50kg heavier than Etergo?
OLA: Ola S1 is a completely different vehicle, fully designed by Ola from the ground up to provide our customers with higher performance, speed and range. This includes components such as large high-capacity batteries-3.97KWh for Ola S1 Pro and 2.98KWh for Ola S1, providing them with an industry-leading range. The Ola S1 has a low center of gravity, and the front and rear weight balance gives it excellent stability and handling. It is also equipped with wider tires, larger front and rear disc brakes, and a longer chassis to provide a more comfortable experience for the rider and rear seat.
ZW: When will the delivery start?
OLA: After the customer with the priority delivery window in November completes the final payment process for purchasing Ola S1, the first delivery will begin. The final payment window for these customers will open on November 10th together with the customer trial ride. Ola Electric is working hard to increase production and deliver the scooters to our customers in accordance with the promised delivery window.
ZW: Which features were not available at the beginning? When will OTA updates be available?
OLA: Ola S1/S1 Pro will be kept up to date, and we will continue to add features via OTA. These include experiential features such as proximity unlocking, cruise control and voice assistant functions, real-time location sharing and geofencing, mood, and personalization and navigation updates. Customers will be notified of their OTA updates through app notifications.
ZW: Why is there a proprietary charging plug?
OLA: The Indian government has established standards for the chargers being developed in India. Since Ola firmly believes in manufacturing in India, we follow IS 17017-2-6 government-defined connector standards and IS 17017-25 government-defined standards for communication and safety. In addition, Ola Homecharger has an IP67 protection level, with excellent dust and water resistance, so it can be used under different conditions. It also has built-in automatic cut-off and surge protection functions.
ZW: How does the keyless system work?
OLA: With the Ola S1 keyless function, you can unlock the scooter by entering a password on the scooter's HMI and through the Ola Electric car companion app. We will soon add the "Proximity Unlock" feature via OTA, which will operate via Bluetooth and the cloud, and let the scooter know when you are approaching or away from it to enable the automatic unlock/lock function.
ZW: What is the difference between the battery pack of S1 and S1 Pro? Is it an extra battery pack? Where is the battery?
OLA: S1 has 2.98 kWh, while S1 Pro has 3.97 kWh. It is located under the foot pad area and helps to lower the center of gravity of the scooter for better stability and riding control.
OLA: Compared with other leading gasoline scooter brands, Ola S1 has a 43% lower cost of ownership, making it more economical to own and maintain. Service costs have been kept at the lowest level.
ZW: What is the life cycle of a battery?
OLA: Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro are equipped with the most advanced lithium-ion batteries, designed to improve performance, extend battery life and support OTA debugging. The battery's protection level is IP67, and it uses high-energy density lithium-ion batteries to help improve performance and cruising range. An advanced battery management system (BMS) helps monitor batteries, data management, power distribution and energy management-extending battery life. The battery of Ola scooters has a 3-year/unlimited kilometer warranty. If there is any defect in the battery during this period, we will replace it. With the continuous development of technology, if you need to replace the battery outside the warranty period, we will provide it at the most favorable market price.
ZW: What is the IP rating of the battery and motor?
OLA: The protection level of battery and motor are both IP67.
ZW: What chassis does it use?
OLA: It is a tubular frame structure designed to ensure high performance and durability.
ZW: How much energy can be generated by regeneration? What are the operating parameters?
OLA: When braking, Ola S1's regeneration comes into play. It has two additional Regen types: Coast Regen means that if the accelerator is released, the scooter battery will regenerate (in this case, the rider will feel a very slight braking effect) and Forced Regen, which helps increase The range of the reverse throttle (in this case the rider will feel the obvious braking effect).
